Abstract

The enigmatic rise of water (sap) through the xylem of various plants has been a topic of active research and controversy for several decades. Various models like the vital theory models (viz. the pulsatile pumping model by J.C. Bose), root pressure model and the physical models are discussed in this article along with their relative merits and demerits and experimental findings.
